The first creative agency of its kind opens Downtown Kamloops

We are super excited to announce that the Ninth Lab is finally open for business! We want to thank the President of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce Kate Stebbings, the Downtown Kamloops CAP team, and the rest of the Downtown Kamloops crew for helping us cut the ribbon! Although we finished renovations in January of 2020, the world had different plans for us.

Naturally last year half the majority of our crew (who also work for our sister company Common Sound) were swamped with 70+ weddings, and 120 postponed private events. So it took a while to formally celebrate the opening of one of the most complex, and technically built studios ever to be built in the interior of BC.

We’re super excited to open our doors to a 4 person podcast studio, a recording studio that can fit up to 3 recording musicians; a photography/videography bay, a lounge, and of course a bar stocked with all the tasty beverages one might need.

We can’t wait to host you some time in 2023!

To get nerdy on our specs, check out the recording studio specs below👇🏼

Our Recording Studio is comprised of a  Flex Podcast/Recording Room, a  Control Room, and a  Production Room  for the podcast sessions.

The  Flex Roomis a beautiful room designed to put artists and guests into the most comfortable and creative state possible. For podcasts we have 4 hardwired AT4040 microphones on booms; 4 chairs; key lights; smart lights above (and in lamps) for different colour profiles; and 4 cameras hardwired to our production room. That room also has a AT4040 mic (can be replaced with a Shure SM7B Vocal Mic) on a mic stand for recording artists. The room can accommodate up to 4 podcasters (3 on camera), or 2 performing artists at a time.

The  Control Room is opposite the Flex Room – separated by a window. It has a couch for playback; a desk with a 27″ iMac running Logic Pro; a Rubix24 Audio Interface; two cold fridges (byob); a talkback mic; two playback monitors; and a set of Audio-Technica ATH-M50x monitor headphones.

The  Production Room is located in the middle of our studio, separated from both the other rooms by a passthrough hallway. It houses our 32 channel mixer (which takes audio snakes from every room in the studio), a Black Magic Atem Iso Extreme; a Black Magic Mini Pro Iso; 2 Elgato Streamdecks; a Rode Rodecaster Pro; a 60″ tv for monitoring and switching video feeds; a 35″ tv for monitoring streaming optics/analytics; and a 27″ iMac for streaming on OBS/ReStream (and recording redundancies).
